Face Serum FAQ

Find the answers to some frequently asked questions about face serums below.

  • After cleansing and before moisturizing, apply a thin layer of your day or night serum over your entire face and neck. Always consult the instructions on your serum package and apply as directed.

  • If you’re using an antioxidant face serum, like CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum, simply apply an even layer to your face and neck daily after cleansing. If using the CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum, always follow it with moisturizer and sunscreen. Always check the directions on your face serum to confirm the correct application.

  • Retinol has been used for decades as a topical treatment for a variety of skin concerns. These include fine lines, blemishes, discoloration, rough and bumpy skin, and keratosis pilaris.1 It works by stimulating natural skin cell turnover and collagen.2

  • Retinol serum is an effective and gentle treatment for acne, post-acne marks, and uneven skin tone. It works by accelerating skin’s surface cell renewal, and promoting natural exfoliation to reveal fresh, healthy-looking skin. It also has the added benefit of helping to improve fine lines, discoloration, tone, and texture.3 Just be sure to use it at night only, and wear sunscreen during the day, as it can make your skin more sensitive to UV rays.

  • Ceramides are lipids that are known to comprise up to 50% of your natural skin barrier. Think of them as the glue that holds your skin cells together to help seal in moisture and protect against impurities. Ceramides are vital to the health of your skin and play a key role in your skin’s protective barrier. Each of our products are formulated with three essential ceramides for exactly these reasons.
